After graduating with a degree in Electrification of Power Supply in 2003, at a time when the country was in a state of transformation and development, and was in great need of human resources to work in the industrial sector, Associate Professor, Dr. Nguyen Vu Quynh chose to become a university lecturer.
Sharing with reporters of the Vietnam Education Electronic Magazine, Mr. Quynh recalled: “Since childhood, I have cherished the dream of becoming a teacher, partly thanks to my family’s tradition of education. My father was a dedicated teacher at the military school in Da Lat, and my mother was a secondary school teacher at a village school.
Both of them devoted their lives to the cause of educating people, and were highly respected by their students and colleagues. From a young age, I had the opportunity to witness the image of my parents diligently preparing lessons, standing on the podium with boundless enthusiasm and dedication. The stories about my father's students, the nights my mother stayed up late to grade papers were deeply imprinted in my mind, nurturing in me a strong love for the teaching profession.
As an adult, I decided to study at Ho Chi Minh City University of Technical Education, graduated as valedictorian and then began my teaching journey at Lac Hong University.
Up to now, I have been attached to this school for 21 years, holding many important positions such as Deputy Head of Department, Head of Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering, Head of Scientific Research Department and currently holding the role of Vice Principal. That journey has deeply engraved in me gratitude and pride for the teaching profession, a noble mission that I always respect and continue to pursue.

Mr. Quynh said that the biggest motivation for him to persistently pursue scientific research activities is his passion, discovery and desire to contribute to human knowledge. When witnessing the excitement and curiosity of students when facing new scientific issues, he realized that each step forward in research not only opens up new horizons of knowledge but also inspires the younger generation.
Besides, seeing the development and success of the students he guides is also a source of pride and great motivation for the vice principal to continue pursuing the path of research.
“I also deeply feel my responsibility in improving the training quality and reputation of Lac Hong University. Each research project and each published scientific article is not only a personal achievement but also a contribution to the development of the entire scientific community and the university.
The noble awards at science and technology innovation competitions, the certificates of merit and certificates of merit from the Prime Minister and prestigious agencies are not only recognition for my efforts but also a source of motivation for me to continue to contribute and further promote research activities in the future.
These factors have helped me maintain my passion and perseverance in scientific research for over 21 years,” Mr. Quynh shared.
“Bringing positive change to society is the value of scientific research”
Up to now, Associate Professor, Doctor Nguyen Vu Quynh has conducted 17 scientific research projects, including 14 grassroots projects, 3 provincial and ministerial projects (of which he is the head or co-head of 16 projects); is the editor of 6 books serving undergraduate and postgraduate training of Lac Hong University; has 73 scientific articles published in prestigious domestic and international scientific journals.
In addition, he has won many high prizes at the Dong Nai province science and technology innovation contest, such as 2 second prizes and 1 third prize of the Vietnam Science and Technology Innovation Award VIFOTEC. The Vice President of Lac Hong University is the first author from Dong Nai province to be listed in the Vietnam Golden Book of Innovation.

The achievements from the scientific research of Associate Professor, Dr. Nguyen Vu Quynh also include 1 exclusive patent for useful solutions; 3 times receiving certificates of merit from the Prime Minister in 2010, 2016, 2023; nearly 100 certificates of merit, certificates of merit for scientific research, for excellent completion of tasks, awarded by the Ministry of Education and Training, Vietnam Education Trade Union, Dong Nai Provincial People's Committee,…
To achieve the above achievements, Associate Professor, Dr. Nguyen Vu Quynh has encountered many difficulties and even failures.
“One of the biggest obstacles is access to advanced resources and technology, especially in the early stages when infrastructure and research conditions are limited. Finding funding for research topics is also a big challenge, requiring perseverance and constant effort,” said the Vice Rector of Lac Hong University.
Besides, the pressure in teaching and management also creates difficulties in carrying out scientific research topics. There are times when the experiments are almost completed but there is not enough time to carry them out and they have to be temporarily put aside to carry out other tasks assigned by the school. Luckily, I always have good students and dedicated colleagues by my side to help the research work progress more smoothly.
In addition, the research process often comes with failures and mistakes. There are times when experiments do not yield the expected results, or hypotheses are proven incorrect. However, I always see these failures as opportunities to learn and improve myself.”

According to Mr. Quynh, first of all, perseverance and patience are the most important factors in scientific research. Every step on the path of scientific research requires determination and effort.
Collaboration and knowledge sharing with colleagues and the research community are also extremely important because with the contributions and multi-dimensional perspectives from others, we can open up new directions and overcome challenges. In addition, always keeping the spirit of continuous learning and being ready to accept new things is the key to success in research.
Among his research works, Associate Professor, Dr. Nguyen Vu Quynh was granted a patent for a useful solution by the Department of Intellectual Property for the solution “Inductor production line”.
According to Mr. Quynh, when the research team of Lac Hong University worked with partners in the industrial park, he realized that many operations in the production process of inductors, an important component in many electronic devices, were still done manually by workers, causing waste of time and money.
The research team's problem was to find solutions to improve performance, minimize errors and improve the quality of manufactured inductors.
After a period of research and testing, the new production line has helped factories improve productivity, ensure consistent quality of inductors and significantly reduce production costs.
The company not only increased its competitiveness in the market but also expanded its production scale, better meeting customer needs. At the same time, the company expanded its products and completely replaced manual implementation with machine implementation.
“One of the most memorable moments during the process of implementing this project was the testing and finalization phase of the product.
We faced many technical challenges, from selecting the right materials to adjusting the specifications to ensure the line ran smoothly. There were nights when the team stayed up all night analyzing and fixing the problems that arose.
However, the greatest joy was when we saw the production line operating effectively and received positive feedback from businesses. That was the moment when I deeply felt the value of scientific research – the positive changes it brings to production and life,” Mr. Quynh recalled.

Young scientists need to see failure as an opportunity to learn and improve.
Despite many achievements, Associate Professor, Dr. Nguyen Vu Quynh said that the event honoring science and technology intellectuals in 2024 is not the end of his scientific research journey.
Accordingly, he is always concerned about how his research projects can directly serve the community and businesses, contributing to improving life and socio-economic development. Because in reality, the process of technology transfer and commercialization of research results still faces many difficulties, requiring closer cooperation between universities and partners outside the society.
“I also always think about how to maintain and develop a high-quality research environment, especially in the context of limited financial and human resources. Finding funding sources for research projects, ensuring good working conditions for lecturers and students, and motivating them to continue to contribute are issues that always require constant attention and effort from the school as well as myself,” Mr. Quynh expressed.

According to the Vice Principal of Lac Hong University, in addition to imparting pure knowledge, he really wants to inspire his students' passion for research so that they can develop creative thinking, know how to ask questions and find ways to solve problems.
Sharing about linking training activities with scientific research, Associate Professor, Dr. Nguyen Vu Quynh commented: “In my opinion, to effectively link training activities with scientific research, it is necessary to first build a dynamic academic environment, where lecturers and students are encouraged and supported to participate in research projects.
This can be done by integrating research topics into the curriculum, involving students directly in lecturers' projects, thereby helping them to access and develop research skills right from the learning stage.
In addition, there should be mechanisms to encourage and motivate lecturers and students to participate in scientific research, such as rewards, financial support, or facilitating the publication of research works.
Educational institutions should also promote cooperation with businesses, government agencies, and social organizations to put research results into practical applications. This not only helps to enhance the value of research but also contributes to solving specific problems in the community and society.
Building a long-term research strategy, closely combining training and research goals, is a key factor to ensure sustainable development for both activities.
According to Associate Professor, Dr. Nguyen Vu Quynh, to maintain perseverance and achieve success in scientific research activities, students and young scientists need a spirit of perseverance, nurturing passion and aspiration for research; always maintain the spirit of continuous learning to maintain creativity; see failure as an opportunity to learn and improve.
In addition, the younger generation should be well prepared for research topics; build a network of cooperation with colleagues, experts and other organizations to bring new ideas, resources and opportunities for research development.
At the same time, we must always find ways for research results to be applied in practice and bring benefits to the community. Because creating works that can solve specific problems or improve lives will help students and young scientists clearly see the value of their work.
