In recent years, the Faculty of Infrastructure Engineering and Urban Environment has changed its admission method and in 2024 the Faculty will increase its enrollment quota by 50.
To learn more about the above content, a reporter from Vietnam Education Electronic Magazine had a discussion with Dr. Nguyen Van Nam – Head of the Department of Infrastructure Engineering and Urban Environment, Hanoi University of Architecture. .
Reporter: In the past three years, the Faculty of Infrastructure Engineering and Urban Environment has had a change in the ratio of admission methods.
Specifically, in 2022, the school will spend 70% of admission criteria based on high school graduation results; 15% of the admission quota is based on the results of the capacity assessment of Hanoi National University and 15% of the admission quota is based on the results of the high school graduation exam.
By 2023, the Faculty will spend 40% of the admission quota on the admission method based on high school graduation exam scores; The remaining 60% of admission criteria are for consideration of high school graduation results (10% reduction), not admission based on competency results organized by Hanoi National University.
In 2024, the Faculty maintains the same admission rate in 2 methods as in 2023.
Could you please tell me why the Faculty stopped the admission method based on the results of the Hanoi National University's competency assessment exam and reserved 40% of the admission quota based on high school exam scores?

Dr. Nguyen Van Nam: After 1 year of admission based on the results of the competency assessment test of Hanoi National University, reality shows that the number of applications submitted to the departments of the faculty is very small. Meanwhile, the Faculty can recruit candidates for the high school graduation exam with high results.
Simplifying enrollment methods also makes it easier for candidates to register their wishes, minimizing problems and risks for candidates.
In addition, the unit strictly complies with the admission guidelines of the Ministry of Education and Training, which encourages universities to consider admission based on high school graduation exam scores. Therefore, the Faculty has proposed that the school's Admissions Council adjust the admission rate and method as above.
Reporter: What are the criteria and methods for selecting academic transcripts of the Faculty, Doctor?
Dr. Nguyen Van Nam: For the admission method of academic transcripts, the Faculty conducts early admission based on the academic results of the first 5 semesters of 3 years of high school (in accordance with the school's admission project and regulations of the Ministry of Education and Training). create). The minimum score for admission by this method into the faculty's major this year is 18 points (for a combination of 3 admission subjects) and no subject has less than 5 points.
Reporter: In 2024, the Faculty maintains the same quota rate with 2 admission methods as in 2023 and increases it by 50 quotas. Please share the reason?
Dr. Nguyen Van Nam: In 2023, the Faculty will be very successful in recruiting students when it reaches the target according to the project and the quality of entry points is high compared to the technical branches of the school and other training facilities. Therefore, this year the Faculty still proposes to keep the same rate and admission method as last year.
Based on the increase in matriculation scores in 2022 and 2023, the rate of graduates having jobs is high, the recruitment needs of businesses sent to the Faculty/School are many, the training capacity and teaching staff exceed superior to the current training scale… so the Faculty has proposed increasing 50 targets by 2024.

Reporter: Through observation, the benchmark scores of the Faculty's majors/majors (industry group 4) in the past three years have fluctuated slightly. (In 2021, the benchmark score is 20; in 2022 it will be 22.5 and in 2023 it will be 21.45)
Could you please share about the fluctuations in the above standard scores?
Dr. Nguyen Van Nam: As mentioned above, the Faculty's admission results in recent years have been satisfactory, and the admission standards for the Faculty's majors are also at a suitable level to both ensure the set admission targets and ensure quality. entrance admission.
With enrollment targets and early registration and submission of admission applications like this year, it is expected that the standard score of group 4 entering the Faculty will not have a big change (expected difference of 0.5 points compared to last year).
Reporter: In 2024, does the Faculty have any new features in the training program, practice, internship, scientific research activities…, sir?
Dr. Nguyen Van Nam: 2024 is a pivotal year, the year of the Faculty's 55th anniversary, and the unit is also carrying out accreditation work for training programs.
It is expected that this year the Faculty will have many activities to celebrate and respond. A typical example is the scientific conference “Developing smart green urban infrastructure”; Industry exhibitions and job consulting fairs; Professional tours in coordination with businesses and outside units will be organized…

Reporter: Infrastructure Engineering has 3 majors including Urban Infrastructure Engineering; Urban Environmental Engineering and Construction Electromechanical Technology.
Teacher can share about the similarities and differences in the training of the above 3 majors, so that candidates can choose the right major that suits their abilities. If a candidate has not chosen the right major that matches his or her abilities, how can the candidate supplement their knowledge and skills to graduate and do the major they like, doctor?
Dr. Nguyen Van Nam: The above majors all aim to train infrastructure technical engineers, contributing expertise and knowledge to design and build synchronous urban technical infrastructure systems, helping urban areas. Modern and worth living.
The training program for the above 3 majors is built in an integrated and flexible way to help learners grasp general knowledge, basic industry knowledge and in-depth specialized knowledge according to the output standards mentioned in the education program.
Learners also have the opportunity to study horizontally to facilitate the process of completing the modules. Students of various majors have the opportunity to study in groups, do group projects, to be able to share and learn in-depth knowledge…
Therefore, when graduating, students can work in many related fields, and can also learn additional knowledge to be able to work or be considered for graduate study in related fields.
Reporter: What are the job opportunities for students of the Faculty in recent years, especially when urban areas in cities are increasingly developing, Doctor?
Dr. Nguyen Van Nam: The issue of employment after graduation is always of concern to learners and society. Faculty leaders have repeatedly discussed and shared on the school's information and communication systems and press agencies.
It can be said that as urban areas are increasingly developing and people's lives are increasingly improving, the roles and responsibilities of infrastructure engineers are indispensable.
Infrastructure technical engineers contribute human resources to contribute to the synchronous and modern construction of technical infrastructure systems in urban areas, ensuring compliance with future urban development trends such as: Green cities, smart cities, livable cities…

Encourage and help children feel secure in studying.
The Faculty always maintains a budget funded by agencies and businesses to reward and award scholarships to new students or during graduation ceremonies.
In addition, many teachers in the department are always ready to contribute and provide unexpected support to students when they encounter difficult circumstances such as epidemics, natural disasters, etc.
Reporter: Could you please share more about the Faculty's achievements?
Dr. Nguyen Van Nam: With a rich tradition of training as mentioned above, the Faculty and individual teachers in the Faculty have received many certificates of merit at all levels such as: 2nd Class Labor Medal, Certificate of Merit from the Prime Minister, Certificate of Merit from the Prime Minister. commendation from the Minister of Construction; Certificates of merit from professional associations such as: Loa Thanh Award Council, Urban Development Planning Association; Vietnam Water Supply and Sewerage Association.
