Considering V-SAT test scores is a university admission method applied by some universities from 2023. In 2025, there are 18 higher education institutions that have agreed to jointly use V-SAT test results. The V-SAT exam organizes 8 independent subjects, including: Math, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, English, History, Geography and adding Literature from 2025.

Increase the difficulty level of the multiple-choice question system

In 2024, the University of Finance and Marketing will add an admission method using V-SAT exam results for a maximum of 5% of the admission quota for regular university degrees.

Talking to a reporter from Vietnam Education Electronic Magazine, Master Le Trong Tuyen – Deputy Head of Training Management Department, University of Finance and Information Marketing, the V-SAT exam is an entrance assessment exam. University on computers, organized by a number of universities in Vietnam from 2023.

The exam is designed to evaluate candidates' abilities for university admission purposes. The exam content closely follows the current general education curriculum. Currently, the school is actively completing projects, regulatory documents, and information technology infrastructure to officially organize the V-SAT exam from early 2025.

Ensuring the fairness and differentiation of the exam, this year's exam includes 4 types of questions: True/False multiple choice, Matching multiple choice, 4-choice objective test and short answer or multiple choice questions. essay writing.

The Banking Academy has organized the V-SAT exam since 2024. The 2025 V-SAT exam is increasingly standardized, the question bank is updated and the scoring method is adjusted to improve the level of ability differentiation of candidates.

For the first time, Literature is being tested in the VSAT exam

2025 will be the first time Lac Hong University organizes the V-SAT exam. Master Nguyen Trong Vinh, Head of Training Department, Lac Hong University said that the school currently has the necessary hardware and software systems. necessary to ensure the exam runs smoothly.

This includes having high-quality equipment and updated networks capable of handling large amounts of data during exam times.

The team of teachers and technicians has been thoroughly trained on how to use new technology and manage situations that may arise during the exam.

However, applying a new exam model such as V-SAT may encounter concerns from officials, lecturers, candidates and parents due to lack of information and understanding about this exam.

One of the new features of the 2025 V-SAT exam is the addition of a Literature subject with a combination of multiple choice and computer-based essay writing. Master Nguyen Trong Vinh assessed that this will bring significant changes in the way the exam is organized.

The first is the organizational stage: The Literature exam requires improving the exam software, including the addition of an essay writing function. Computer-based testing platforms need to be upgraded to support these functions, while ensuring security and safe data storage.

Although the multiple-choice section can be scored automatically, the essay section requires human intervention to evaluate.

Therefore, it is necessary to support examiners on how to use computer-based assessment tools, as well as update scoring criteria to suit the new exam format.

Second is human resource allocation: There needs to be more judges with expertise in Literature to grade the essays, as well as technicians to provide technical support throughout the exam process.

Third is the exam procedure: Organizing a Literature exam requires more complicated procedures than pure multiple-choice subjects due to a combination of automatic and manual marking. There need to be steps to check the quality and fairness of exam marking to ensure the accuracy of results.

“In general, the addition of Literature will increase the complexity of organizing the exam in terms of human resources, equipment and procedures. However, this change also provides an opportunity to more comprehensively evaluate candidates' true abilities, especially the ability to think critically and express literature” – Mr. Vinh affirmed.

Sharing more about the addition of Literature subject in the V-SAT 2025 exam, Master Nguyen Hua Duy Khang, Deputy Head of Training Department, Can Tho University expressed: “The essay writing part in the Literature exam will accounts for about 20% of the total score of the test.

Writing on a computer can limit erasures and the writing can be presented clearly, making it convenient for candidates and examiners. The issue we need to pay attention to is to carefully research the grading process, ensure confidentiality, fairness and properly evaluate candidates' abilities.

With the marking of multiple-choice exams, not only Literature but other exam subjects have also had many changes to minimize the element of chance. For example, if a candidate answers 4/4 questions correctly in a question, he or she will receive the maximum score for that question. If 3/4 answers are correct, he or she will only receive 50% of the score. This will more accurately assess the candidates' abilities, enhancing the level of differentiation of candidates.”

V-SAT admission does not reduce the criteria for high school graduation scores

Referring to the issue of target ratios for enrollment methods, the Head of Training Department of the University of Finance and Marketing affirmed: “In the school's expected 2025 enrollment direction, the admission method used is The results of the V-SAT exam will be adjusted and the target will be increased compared to 2024.

Increasing the admission quota for this method aims to diversify admission methods, giving candidates more opportunities to demonstrate their abilities.

However, this does not reduce the criteria based on high school graduation exam scores compared to the previous enrollment year. The school will still reserve a certain number of admission quotas based on the results of the high school graduation exam, to ensure the rights of all candidates.

However, the target ratio for each admission method may change depending on the regulations of the Ministry of Education and Training in the 2025 admission year.

To ensure fairness in university admission through many methods, Master Le Trong Tuyen shared that fairness is an important factor to ensure the creation of equal opportunities for all candidates. so that candidates can demonstrate their abilities and be admitted to universities in an objective and transparent manner, as well as not creating disadvantages for any group of candidates.

Minimizing the difference between admission methods can be considered based on factors such as: combining or consolidating multiple criteria to comprehensively evaluate candidates' abilities when considering admission, admission schedule. Focus on all admission methods…

In order to “troubleshoot” the problem of university admission using many methods, Mr. Tuyen expressed: “It is necessary to review and re-evaluate the quality of admission methods before making adjustment decisions. One Among them, it can be predicted that it is necessary to limit the number of admission methods and limit the use of complicated admission methods that few candidates are interested in.

In particular, priority should be given to using admission methods based on the results of capacity assessment in accordance with the requirements and training characteristics of the school, training major and admission methods to ensure fairness and objectivity. .

In addition, as stated above, building a schedule for centralized admission for all methods also contributes significantly to reducing the “virtual” admission rate, thereby improving the quality of admission. as well as improved enrollment efficiency.”

Deputy Head of Training Department of Lac Hong University also informed that the school spends a maximum of 10% of the enrollment target for admission based on the results of the competency assessment test and the V-SAT exam.

However, the implementation of this admission method does not affect the admission criteria equal to the high school graduation exam score (expected 30% of the total target).

In the opinion of Master Nguyen Trong Vinh, university admission using many methods is a trend that is being widely applied. To do this effectively, some of the following measures need to be implemented:

First, the ratio between admission methods (high school graduation exam scores, transcripts, aptitude tests, separate exams) should be divided based on the goals and characteristics of each major. .

For example, arts and sports majors may place high priority on aptitude tests, while natural and social sciences majors may rely more heavily on high school graduation exam scores.

Second, universities need to clearly announce admission criteria, scoring methods and evaluation methods for each method. This helps candidates understand the requirements and prepare better for the admission process.

Third, use data management and analytics systems to monitor, evaluate and optimize the admission process. Technology can help automate some assessment steps, reduce errors and increase fairness.

Fourth, higher education institutions should also evaluate the effectiveness of periodic admission methods to adjust them to suit educational practices and social needs. This helps update recruitment methods according to new trends and labor market needs.
